Welcome to the Newcastle Community Empowerment Website! The Newcastle Partnership members are committed to increasing community engagement and empowerment and the Framework is part of the Partnership’s strategy for achieving this.
Residents and other people working in or visiting the city can find out more here about how they can get involved and be empowered when decisions are made about the local area. Staff in the Partnership organisations, and other organisations who work in the City, can find out more here about how best to engage and empower people, what policies govern this work, and what resources are available to help them.
The Newcastle Partnership has been working on engagement and empowerment for the last two years and launched the Community Empowerment Framework in February 2010. For a brief introduction go to Background.
You can find out what’s happening in Community News on the right of this page, and in the Events page.
Why not get involved and tell us what you think in the Forum. You can also use the Forum if you have taken part in engagement and want to make a comment or have a question which could help your work.
We’d love to see your examples of good practice in community empowerment. Why not read through what others have said in the Good Ideas area, then add your own example? You should also visit this area if you live in Newcastle and want to find out what organisations say works well.
If you work for an organisation which is looking to create its own standards for working with and empowering communities, look at the Library for examples of how the Partnership’s organisations have done this (for example, Newcastle City Council’s Community Engagement Strategy).
Finally, if you need some ideas on how to get people involved, or you are looking for local consultation or community empowerment resources, have a look at the Tools (and Resources) page.
